We have an excellent week long trip planned for May 13-20,2024 staying at the 4-Star All Inclusive Bahia Principe Grand Coba Resort and scuba diving in Akumal, Mexico. 

Akumal is one of our scuba diving destinations. It offers a lovely reef/wall experience and epic cenote diving all in one beautiful location. The Akumal reef is fantastic with turtles, coral reef and marine life and of course world class cenote diving led by our favourite Cave Explorer Matt Mandziuk and friends.

May is the ideal time to dive this area. Akumal literally translates to “Land of Turtles” and May marks the start of the turtle breeding season! PLUS the best conditions in the Cenotes are spring and summer. 

Our week long trip departs Monday May 13th returning on the holiday Victoria Day, Monday May 20th.

BAHAI PRINCIPE GRAND COBA 

This 4 star All Inclusive Resort is a favourite among travellers to Akumal. The resort is the best value resort nestle amongst a large complex of Bahaia Principe Resorts.  Amenities include large pools, mini water parks and large selection of buffets, bars and à la carte restaurants. This is a family friendly resort.

Dining options at this All Inclusive Resort include: Three á la carte dinners in restaurants per week of stay, International Buffets and a Snack Bar with traditional American food and snacks open 24 hours a day. You also have access to the Grand Bahia Principe Tulum hotel à la carte restaurants (except the buffet) via prior reservation.

The Bahia Principe complex has some of the best beaches for snorkelling in the area. The white sand beach is a 10 minute free shuttle ride away. Please note most beaches in the Caribbean have been experiencing a rise in sargassum (seaweed) on shore. The resorts work diligently to keep the beaches clean but weather dependant it may be present at trip time.

REEF DIVING IN AKUMAL

Scuba diving in Akumal is known for its location at the top of the Belize Barrier Reef. These dive sites offer a huge variety of dive sites and environments from coral reefs to short tunnels and it’s famous for turtles!

The water is warm and visibility is generally excellent. Almost all sites are protected from heavy current. Loggerhead, Green and Hawksbill turtles are frequently seen in the area as they arrive each summer to lay their eggs.

Dive Packages includes two boat dive per day with AM departure times, an 80 cubic ft. aluminum tank, weights, locker, hot shower and round trip transportation from the resort. 

PADI OPEN WATER DIVER COURSE

Not certified yet? Option to complete you pool and classroom training in Canada this winter and finish your open water dives with DDS in Mexico! Course Dates for pool and classroom available on two Saturdays a month in January, February, March and April 2024. Cost is + $695 CDN

CENOTE DIVING IN AKUMAL

Cenote Diving is magical and Akumal & Tulum offer some of the best known cenote diving in Mexico. The Cenotes (caverns) are the access to a huge network of underground freshwater rivers. Mother Nature’s veins keep ancient secrets and provide testimony of past cultures and extinct animals.

These underground rivers are considered top class cavern and cave diving.

The guided cenote dives include introduction to overhead environment diving procedures including underwater communication with flashlights, team diving protocols, emergency procedures, buoyancy control and gas consumption rules.

Cenote divers are not required to be cave certified. A full in-depth briefing will be provided, the dive will be guided by a certified Cave Instructor and group sizes are no larger than 4 divers. Please note divers are required to have a minimum 30 dives, advanced certification and good buoyancy and trim to ensure the safety and enjoyment for the whole group.

Entrance fees to the cenotes are not included in the price. Estimated cost between $20 – $40 CDN depending on the cenote.

CANCELLATION POLICY: 

Cancel by March 7, 2024 – Loss of deposit per passenger.
