PADI Discover Local Diving Orientation

PADI Discover Local Diving Orientation

The PADI Discover Local Diving Orientation is for any diver looking to participate in diving at a new location or in a different diving environment that is unfamiliar to them or beyond their scope of training.

Who Should Take This Program?

You may remember your PADI Instructor saying, “If you travel to a new location or visit an unfamiliar dive environment, get a local orientation.” Its good advice and easy to do. Just ask us for a PADI Discover Local Diving Orientation.

Scuba diving with an experienced local dive professional lets you relax and better enjoy the adventure, which is why we thrive at this sort of activity.

DDS staff will take the time to educate you on the equipment you’ll be using as we fit you with our exclusive gear package for those requiring rentals.  From there we’ll travel to a local dive site and work on your weighting, buoyancy and comfort.

Upon completion of dive 1, we’ll do a short surface interval, grab a snack maybe and re-hydrate and likely change location to a more interesting or more challenging site.

PADI Discover Local Diving Orientation is for Any Certified Diver who wants to dive in a new area or environment. You will benefit from not just our experience and knowledge, but also the personal attention we provide our guests with.

For example, if all your diving has been in warm water on coral reefs and you travel to an area with cooler water like the Great Lakes region that requires you to wear a thicker exposure suit, hood, gloves and more, Discover Local Diving is for you.

Or, if the majority of your experience is from dive boats, and you have the chance to do a shore dive with an entry through mild surf, sign up for a Discover Local Diving experience.

Join us for an awesome day of local diving in Ontario.  Our local diving sites are rich in number and suitable for divers of any experience level from recreational open water, through advanced, technical and even rebreathers if you participate in some deeper wreck diving in Lake Ontario or Lake Erie. We are blessed to be bordered by 2 of the best wreck diving sites in the world.

Shore Dives are available 7 days a week with at least 2 weeks notice.  Feel free to peruse our local dive sites section to find the dives best for you.

Charters are running regularly during the season, however, we do not at this time have our own boat, so they are only available on weekends.

What will you learn?

Our experienced DDS Professional Staff Member will brief you on the dive site conditions, hazards and points of interest, plus describe the aquatic life you’ll see and how to interact responsibly with local creatures. If there are special procedures or techniques used locally, your dive professional will show you what to do to make your scuba dive fun and hassle free.

If you feel like you need a refresher before the dive, ask about doing a Scuba Review.

What gear will you use?

You’ll need your basic scuba setup which includes your  mask, snorkel, strap fins, regulator available in choice of Long Hose or Short Hose configuration, choice of Halcyon Infinity Backplate/Wing or traditional jacket buoyancy control device, wrist dive computer and a scuba tank. The exposure protection you use will depend on your overall comfort and experience as we rent both wetsuits and drysuits.  Our staff will explain any other equipment you should have.

Many divers after completion of a day of shore diving will also book a boat charter to some of the phenomenal shipwrecks we have in both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario.

$150.00 + HST.  Rentals, Charters, Park Admissions, Transportation not included.
